Lead Spinning Elbow
Elbows · Lead side (Orthodox left, Southpaw right)
Spin toward the rear shoulder and whip the lead elbow around (sok klap); high risk, fight-ending reward.
How to throw it
Step your lead foot across your centreline, spin toward your rear shoulder, and whip the lead elbow around (sok klap) so your turning bodyweight carries it into the target. Spot the opponent over your shoulder as you rotate so the elbow arrives on line and you do not lose them. Keep the elbow tight and the fist close to your own head, and finish balanced so a miss does not spin you off your base.
When to use it
A high-risk, fight-ending weapon best used to punish an opponent who circles into it or backs straight off, and it hides well behind a committed punch that turns your hips. Throw it when you are confident of the read, because a miss leaves your back briefly turned.
Common mistakes
- Spinning blind without turning your head first to find the target, so the elbow sails past or lands with the arm rather than the point.
- Over-rotating and stepping too wide, which walks you past the opponent and leaves your back exposed.
- Winding the elbow out away from your head instead of keeping it tight, which telegraphs the spin and saps the power from the turn.
