Muay Thai Combos for Beginners

If you are new to Muay Thai, the fastest way to get combinations into your body is to throw them over and over on the bag or in the air, without stopping to think about what comes next. That is exactly what a combo caller is for: it picks a combination at random and calls it out loud, so your job is simply to react and throw.

The combos below are the beginner canon. They are built from a small set of strikes (the jab, the cross, the lead hook, the rear low kick and the teep) arranged so that each strike naturally sets up the next. Start with the two and three strike combinations until they feel automatic, then add the longer chains.

Focus on clean technique before speed. Keep your guard up between strikes, turn your kicks over from the hip rather than swinging with the leg, and step your weight into your punches instead of reaching. Every combo here works from both orthodox and southpaw, because the app mirrors each left and right to the stance you set.

When a single combo feels comfortable, move on to a themed workout. The beginner workouts below string these combinations into short rounds with rest between them. It is all free, it runs in your browser, and nothing is stored unless you make an account.
