Push Block

Defence

Catch a kick or knee midway with the near arm and push off the chest to rob its momentum.

How to throw it

Catch the kick or knee midway with your near arm and extend into it, pushing off their chest or shoulder to stop the strike before it gains full force. Meet it early and frame with a straight arm so their momentum is robbed rather than absorbed. Use the push to break their balance and reset the distance in your favour.

When to use it

Use it to smother a kick or knee before it lands, especially at mid range where you can reach the striking limb early. Framing and pushing off breaks their rhythm and opens space to counter or escape the exchange.

Common mistakes

  • Catching the strike too late, after it has built momentum, so the push does nothing
  • Framing with a bent, weak arm that folds under the pressure instead of stopping it
  • Committing so hard to the push that you overreach and fall into their next strike
