Rear Uppercut Elbow
Elbows · Rear side (Orthodox right, Southpaw left)
Rising rear elbow (sok ngat) driven up off the back leg, under the chin.
How to throw it
Drive the rear elbow up under the chin (sok ngat), pushing off the back leg and lifting the point of the elbow vertically through the middle. Load the legs, extend up through the hips, and keep the lead hand tight to protect against the return. Keep the path tight to the centre line so it splits the guard cleanly.
When to use it
Use it up close when the opponent is bent forward or shelling high, spearing the rising rear elbow into the exposed chin or face. Off the back leg it gets extra lift, making it a strong finish inside the pocket.
Common mistakes
- Failing to load and push off the back leg, so the elbow rises with no drive
- Letting the elbow drift wide instead of tracking up the middle
- Dropping the lead hand while committing to the upward strike
