Weave Rear
Defence · Rear side (Orthodox right, Southpaw left)
Dip under the hook and come up on your rear side, loading the power hand.
How to throw it
Dip under the hook by bending the knees and rolling your head toward your rear side, keeping your chin down and guard high. As you come up, your weight settles over the rear leg, loading the power hand for the return. Stay compact through the movement so you rise in balance rather than falling away from the opponent.
When to use it
Weave to the rear side when you want to slip a hook and come up with the power hand already cocked to answer with a cross or rear hook. It turns a defensive move into the start of your own attack.
Common mistakes
- Over-rotating and letting the weight spill past the rear foot, killing your balance
- Coming up out of range so the loaded power hand has nothing to land on
- Ducking straight down instead of rolling under the arc, so the hook still connects
