Fake Cross
Feints · Rear side (Orthodox right, Southpaw left)
Show the rear hand to bring their guard up, then take whatever it leaves open below.
How to throw it
Show the rear hand with a believable twitch and hip turn to bring their guard up, then hold the shot back and read what the raised guard leaves open below. Keep your balance centred so you can follow instantly into the gap rather than committing weight to a punch you never throw. Sell it with the shoulder so the threat looks like a real cross.
When to use it
Fake the cross to draw the guard high, then take whatever it exposes underneath, typically a body shot or a low kick. It is a strong opener against a fighter who reacts hard to the power hand.
Common mistakes
- Committing your weight forward as if throwing, leaving you off balance for the real strike
- Showing only the hand without the shoulder, so the fake is not convincing
- Pausing after the fake instead of flowing straight into the opening below
