Rear Side Knee
Knees · Rear side (Orthodox right, Southpaw left)
Curving rear knee arcing into the open side, driven with a hip twist from the clinch.
How to throw it
Drive the rear knee in a curving arc into the opponent's open side, snapping a hip twist through the strike to power it. Post on your lead leg, rotate the rear hip over the top, and let the knee carve inward while you steer the head or arm into the path with your clinch grip. Keep your back straight and your weight stacked over your standing foot.
When to use it
It is a clinch weapon for the open side, ideal when you have turned or framed the opponent and their ribs are exposed. The hip twist makes it one of the heavier body knees you can throw from a hold.
Common mistakes
- Not committing the hip rotation, so the knee arcs in soft
- Reaching with the knee while leaving your posture bent forward and off balance
- Squaring up instead of turning the opponent first, which removes the open side to attack
