Rear Body Kick
Kicks · Rear side (Orthodox right, Southpaw left)
Rear roundhouse into the ribs, thrown like swinging a bat through the target.
How to throw it
Step the lead foot slightly offline, pivot hard so the hips fully rotate, and swing the rear leg through the ribs like swinging a bat through the target, landing on the shin. Commit your bodyweight and let the arm swing down across your body to drive the rotation, following through past the point of contact. Keep the lead hand covering the chin as you turn.
When to use it
This is a fight-ending body shot: land it clean on the ribs or liver to sap the opponent's wind and drop their hands over rounds. Set it up behind punches so the hip turn is disguised, and use it at full kicking range.
Common mistakes
- Kicking at the target rather than through it, robbing the shin of momentum.
- Under-rotating the hips so the leg does the work instead of the whole body.
- Leaning too far back and losing balance, which stalls the follow-through and telegraphs the kick.
