Jab → Cross → Lead Hook → Rear Body Kick
IntermediateThis is the same engine as the classic low-kick combination, aimed one level higher. When the elbows flare out to defend the hook, the rear kick swings into the ribs instead.
What this combo trains
The combo trains you to read the opponent's defence and redirect your finish. The jab, cross, and lead hook run the familiar three-punch setup, and because the elbows flare to defend that hook, the rear body kick lands to the ribs like swinging a bat through the target. It develops power transfer through the punches into the kick and the tactical habit of aiming your kick where their reaction to your hands has left them open.
Step by step
- 1.Jab
Lead with the jab to find the range and start the combination, keeping it straight and quick.
- 2.Cross
Follow with the cross off the rear hand, turning the hips over to drive it down the same line.
- 3.Lead Hook
Whip the lead hook around, elbow up and lead hip turning through, which draws their elbows out to defend.
- 4.Rear Body Kick
Swing the rear roundhouse through the exposed ribs like swinging a bat, driving the hip fully around into the target the flared guard left open.
Common mistakes
- Kicking to the ribs before the hook has pulled the elbows out, so the kick lands into a closed guard.
- Arm-punching the hook so the guard never reacts, which removes the opening the body kick needs.
- Chopping the body kick short instead of swinging the shin through the target with full hip rotation.
- Squaring up or dropping the hands as you load the rear kick, leaving you open to a counter.
Who it suits
An intermediate combo for fighters comfortable linking punches into kicks. It works from both orthodox and southpaw because the app mirrors every left and right to your stance.
Why it works
The same engine as the low-kick classic, redirected to the ribs when the elbows flare to defend the hook.
