Rear Knee

Knees · Rear side (Orthodox right, Southpaw left)

Straight knee off the rear leg; spear it through the midsection.

How to throw it

Spear the rear knee straight through the midsection, thrusting the hip forward and up so the point of the knee drives through the target with your full bodyweight. The rear leg travels farther than the lead knee, so it lands heavier: extend the hip fully and rise onto the ball of the base foot to reach and add force. Control the opponent with a collar tie or frame and keep your posture upright.

When to use it

This is your power knee in the clinch or at close range, aimed through the body to break the opponent's wind and posture. Pull them onto it with a collar tie so their forward weight meets the knee coming up.

Common mistakes

  • Kneeing at the target instead of thrusting the hip through it, so the strike lands soft.
  • Failing to rise onto the base foot, which robs the knee of height and power.
  • Leaving the posture broken or the head down, letting the opponent counter or off-balance you.
