High Low High
AdvancedHigh Low High is the classic head-kick setup. You work the hands high, rip the body to drag the guard down, then whip the rear head kick over the top into the space you just opened.
What this combo trains
This advanced sequence trains the deception behind a head kick that actually lands. The jab and cross establish a high threat, the lead body hook pulls the guard and attention down toward the ribs, and that dropped guard opens the lane for the rear head kick over the top. It develops the high-low-high rhythm, disguising the kick behind the hands, and the balance and flexibility to land a roundhouse to the head under control.
Step by step
- 1.Jab
Snap the jab off the lead hand to set the high threat and find your range.
- 2.Cross
Follow with the cross off the rear hand, driving hip rotation to keep their guard committed high.
- 3.Lead Body Hook
Rip the lead body hook into the ribs or liver to drag their guard and attention downward.
- 4.Rear Head Kick
As the guard drops, whip the rear head kick over the top into the open lane, kicking from behind your hands and staying balanced through the turn.
Common mistakes
- Loading the head kick openly instead of hiding it behind the hands, telegraphing it long before it arrives.
- Firing the kick before the body hook has actually pulled the guard down, so it slams into a high block.
- Falling off balance on the kick because the hips and base were not set after the body shot.
- Dropping the punches short so the opponent never respects the hands and never drops the guard.
Who it suits
An advanced combination for orthodox or southpaw, since the app mirrors every side to your stance. It suits experienced fighters with the balance and flexibility to finish on a head kick.
Why it works
Classic high-low-high: the body hook drags the guard down, opening the head-kick lane.
