Lead Low Kick → Cross

Easy

Lead Low Kick to Cross knocks the base out from under the opponent. The inside kick spins the lead leg away and rotates them open, so the cross lands on a squared, off-balance target.

What this combo trains

This short combination trains attacking the base to create a punching opening. The lead low kick chops the inside of the lead leg, knocking it out and turning the opponent open; that rotation squares their stance and exposes the centerline for the cross. It develops kick-to-punch flow, the timing to punch while they are off balance, and the feel of the inside low kick as a setup rather than just damage.

Step by step

  1. 1.
    Lead Low Kick

Chop the lead low kick into the inside of the thigh to knock the lead leg out and rotate the opponent open.

  2. 2.
    Cross

As they turn square and off balance, drive the cross off the rear hand with hip rotation into the exposed centerline.

Common mistakes

  • Kicking the outside of the leg when you want the inside kick that turns them open for the cross.
  • Pausing after the kick and letting them square back up before the cross arrives.
  • Kicking off balance so you cannot plant and turn the hip over on the cross.
  • Dropping the rear hand during the kick, leaving no guard for their counter.

Who it suits

An easy two-strike combination for orthodox or southpaw, since every side mirrors to your stance. It suits beginners and up learning to use the inside low kick to open a target for the hands.

Why it works
