Rear Low Kick
Kicks · Rear side (Orthodox right, Southpaw left)
Chopping rear kick into the opponent's lead thigh; wins fights round by round.
How to throw it
Pivot on the lead foot, open the hips, and chop the rear shin down into the outside or back of the opponent's lead thigh with your bodyweight falling through the kick. Aim to swing through the target rather than at it so the shin bites deep, and let your rear arm drop across your body to add rotation. Keep the chin tucked and lead hand up so you are covered as you commit.
When to use it
This is an attritional weapon that wins fights round by round: stack it on the lead thigh to slow the opponent's movement and rob their kicks and stance. Time it as they step in or after your hands to hide the load.
Common mistakes
- Failing to fully turn the hip over, so the kick lands flat and stings rather than chopping through.
- Always aiming the same spot without mixing inside and outside, letting the opponent check or time it.
- Squaring up or dropping both hands on the follow-through, leaving you open to a counter.
