Jab → Rear Kick
EasyJab, Rear Kick is as simple as Muay Thai combinations get, and it belongs in every session. The jab busies the opponent's eyes while the rear kick comes through underneath to the body or leg.
What this combo trains
This pairing teaches you to hide a heavy kick behind a light punch. The jab occupies the opponent's attention up high so the rear roundhouse arrives before they can react. It is often thrown as a jab and step-out kick to change angle, so you also develop the footwork of stepping off line as you fire the hip through.
Step by step
- 1.Jab
Flick the jab off your lead hand to occupy the opponent's eyes and gauge range. Keep it quick so it masks what is coming underneath.
- 2.Rear Kick
Drive the rear kick through with your hip, the signature Muay Thai roundhouse into the body or leg. Step out as you throw it to change angle and add power.
Common mistakes
- Committing too much to the jab and stalling, so the kick loses its cover and its timing.
- Kicking straight up the middle without the step-out, making the roundhouse easy to read and check.
- Swinging the kick off the leg alone instead of turning it over with the hip.
- Dropping the lead hand as you kick, leaving the head open on the follow-through.
Who it suits
A beginner-friendly essential that stays useful at every level. It works from orthodox or southpaw because the app mirrors every left and right to your stance.
Why it works
Simple but essential. The jab occupies the eyes, the rear kick follows to the body or leg. Often thrown as a jab, step-out kick to change angle.
