Slip Rear → Lead Hook → Cross

Intermediate

Slip Rear to Lead Hook to Cross is a counter off the cross: slipping to the rear side loads the lead hip, the hook fires from that coil, and the cross finishes as their head comes back to centre.

What this combo trains

This sequence trains your defensive slip and the coordination to counter with the near hand first. Slipping to the rear side outside their cross winds up the lead hip, so the hook uncoils naturally from that position; the cross then lands as their head returns to the middle. It develops timing, hip loading, and a smooth transition from evasion into a lead-then-rear counter.

Step by step

  1. 1.
    Slip Rear

Slip your head to the rear side, outside their incoming cross, coiling the lead hip as you move.

  2. 2.
    Lead Hook

Uncoil that loaded lead hip into a hook across the head, elbow up and turning through the target.

  3. 3.
    Cross

As their head comes back toward centre, finish with the cross off the rear hand, driven by full hip rotation.

Common mistakes

  • Slipping without loading the lead hip, so the hook has no stored rotation to release.
  • Slipping too far or standing up out of it, which puts the hook out of range and off balance.
  • Throwing the hook and cross flat-footed, losing the hip drive that both punches need.
  • Delaying the cross until their head has already moved off centre, so it misses the returning target.

Who it suits

An intermediate counter combo for fighters who slip the cross and want an immediate answer. It works from both orthodox and southpaw because the app mirrors every left and right to your stance.

Why it works

Slipping the cross to the rear side loads the lead hip; the hook fires from there and the cross finishes as their head comes back.
