Jab → Cross → Lead Hook

Easy

The 1-2-3 adds the classic finishing hook to the straight one-two. The cross turns your shoulders through, and the hook rides back on that same rotation, so the third punch is loaded by the second.

What this combo trains

This combo teaches you to chain rotation across three punches. The jab finds the range, the cross turns the shoulders through, and the lead hook comes back on that same rotation so the third punch is already loaded by the second. It develops fluid hip and shoulder mechanics, punch-to-punch rhythm, and the timing to switch from straight to horizontal angles without stalling.

Step by step

  1. 1.
    Jab

Lead with the jab to measure and open the line, snapping it back to guard.

  2. 2.
    Cross

Drive the cross off the rear hand, turning the shoulders fully through so the rotation is banked for the hook.

  3. 3.
    Lead Hook

Let the lead hook come back on that same rotation, elbow up and lead hip turning through into the target.

Common mistakes

  • Over-rotating on the cross so you have nothing left to spin the hook, or under-rotating so the hook is not loaded.
  • Winding the hook up wide instead of letting the returning rotation whip it around a short arc.
  • Dropping the elbow on the hook so it turns into a soft slap rather than a horizontal punch.
  • Losing balance forward over the lead leg by the third punch, leaving no base under the hook.

Who it suits

An easy, foundational combo for beginners and up. It works from both orthodox and southpaw because the app mirrors every left and right to your stance.

Why it works

The 1-2-3. The cross turns the shoulders through and the hook comes back on the same rotation, so the third punch is loaded by the second.
